About EMRS Jonai

Ekalavya Model Residential School (EMRS) is a quality residential school established by the Ministry of Tribal Affairs, Government of India and managed by National Education Society for Tribal Students (NESTS).

The EMRS follows the CBSE curriculum to ensure uniform teaching standards across the country. EMRS Jonai is located in Purana Jelom, Pasighat Road, Jonai, Dhemaji District and started from Academic Year 2025-26 with 60 students of Class VI.

The EMRS provides free, quality residential education to students from Class VI to XII.

Functions & Powers

  1. To exercise control over expenditure from funds raised by NESTS for the school, ensure proper custody, correct disbursement, and accurate maintenance of accounts.
  2. To prepare and scrutinize budget estimate for the next financial year, including justification for recurring and new items of expenditure.
  3. To exercise general supervision over the proper running and functioning of school including maintenance of discipline among students as well as members of staff.
  4. To supervise the functioning of hostels, including catering and overall welfare management.
  5. To make suggestions for any improvement or reform or procedural changes for effective functioning of the school.
  6. To assist the school to secure local assistance and cooperation to strengthen the working and growth of the institution.
  7. To scrutinize and approve the Annual Report of the Vidyalaya.

Tenure

  • The Chairman of EMC is the District Commissioner (ex-officio capacity)
  • The Principal of the School is the Member Secretary
  • The tenure of members is three years, with eligibility of re-nomination
  • Members shall continue in office beyond their term until reconstitution

  • The committee meets at least once in a quarter
  • Special meetings convened by the Chairman as and when required
